A little mid week hike

So last week I took our two dogs on a (what I though was going to be quick) late afternoon hike. Well, it wasn’t quick. But it was absolutely gorgeous. We have been experiencing some intense heat waves down here in Southern California, so I waited until it cooled off a little before I left to hike. I had never hiked up the front of this small mountain, but I had done the backside a couple of years ago. The back was hard because it was a lot of climbing over big rocks and lots of switchbacks. My husband told me the front side wasn’t much better, it was just more of a “straight” path. Well, it was straight alright. Straight uphill. Every time I thought I had hit a plateau and it would stay flat for awhile, I turned a corner and it was literally straight up. There were still switchbacks, but not small quick ones. The front of the mountain has a road/trail that’s paved and big enough for a car so it was a nice wide road. But man, it was tough. I used to be in great shape and then we moved around for basically a year and a half straight and I lost track of my fitness regime. So getting back in shape has been a difficult journey at times. Needless to say, this hike kicked my butt. Literally. I was so sore the next day, it was painful to sit and side step!!! But it was SO worth it because I got to the top as the sun was setting and it was absolutely gorgeous. My pictures won’t do it justice.

I have grown to love being outdoors and learning about this beautiful planet. My favorite thing to do is to sit and watch and listen to all the animals going about their lives while admiring all the flowers and trees around me. There is something so calming and peaceful about being out in nature. I hope that we can all take a couple of  minutes out of our days or weeks to enjoy the beauty around us.

What do you like most about being outdoors?
